Johnson and Moses W. Johnson), a male age 16–26, and a female age 10–16, likely Amazon Jane Johnson (311).

On 25 May 1827, the mother of Amazon Jane Johnson, Sarah Jane (Collins) Johnson, died in Georgia. At her death, Sarah Jane Johnson was about 37 years old.

Amazon Jane Johnson and Benjamin Thomas Emanuel married in Jefferson County, Georgia on 2 Jun 1830 and settled in Talbot County, Georgia (312). Amazon’s husband, Benjamin T. Emanuel, was born in Burke County on 29 Jan1806, and Amazon and Benjamin were likely acquainted at an early age.

Amazon Jane (Johnson) Emanuel’s father Elijah Johnson died on 10 Apr 1838 in Talbot County, Georgia (898). At his death, Elijah Johnson was 58 years old.

Emanuel; a female, 5–9 years old, likely Sarah E. Emanuel; and a male less than 5 years old, likely Benjamin Finney Emanuel.

The 16 Aug 1850 federal census of Talbot County enumerates the Benjamin T. Emanuel household in the 17th District (950). Benjamin T. Emanuel was 44 years old and working as a farmer. Benjamin’s wife Amazon Jane (Johnson) Emanuel was 40 years old. Four children were living in the household: Robert Emanuel, age 17; Sarah Emanuel, age 15; Benjamin Emanuel, age 11; Lewis Emanuel, age 9; Georgia Ann Emanuel, age 3 years; as well as an unnamed male infant, age 3 months. All members of the household were born in Georgia.

Amazon Jane Johnson’s husband Benjamin Thomas Emanuel died of Typhoid Pneumonia in Talbot County, Georgia on 27 Feb 1854 (906, 314). At his death, Benjamin T. Emanuel was 48 years old, and Amazon Jane (Johnson) Emanuel was 44 years old.

Following the death of her husband on 27 Feb 1854, Amazon Jane Emanuel continued to operate the Benjamin T. Emanuel plantation.

The 1856 Georgia Property Tax Digests for Talbot County record land held by the heirs of Benjamin Thomas Emanuel (203). The digest lists Wm. Emanuel as administrator of E. Johnson responsible for tax on 230 acres in Early County, Georgia. The digest assigns tax to Mrs. A. J. Emanuel for 366 acres of land in Talbot County, and her son R. J. Emanuel, for 600 acres in Talbot County. The value of all land held by the Emanuel family was estimated at $10 per acre. The total value of land and personal property, including slaves, assigned to the Emanuel family was $24,285.

The 27 Jun 1860 federal census of Talbot County, Georgia enumerates the Amazon J. Emanuel household in the 17th District of Talbot County, Georgia (366). Amazon J. (Johnson) Emanuel was 49 years old. Also living in the household were: Georgia A. E. Emanuel, 13 years old; Thomas Emanuel, 11 years old; and Moses Emanuel, a: 7 years old. Also living with the Amazon J. Emanuel household was Martha George, 20 years old and born in Georgia. Martha George was a daughter of Mark Alexander George and Jane Boswell (Dennis) George. All members of the household were born in Georgia. The 1860 federal census of Talbot County, Georgia enumerates the Amazon Jane Emanuel household and the William David Emanuel household on adjacent properties.

Amazon Jane Emanuel’s daughter Sarah E. (Emanuel) Wilkinson died before 11 Dec 1860 in Talbot County, Georgia.

An 1866 tax digest for Talbotton in Talbot County, Georgia records A. J. Emanuel as responsible for tax on two watches.

In Talbot County, Georgia on 28 Jul 1969, Amazon Jane (Johnson) Emanuel and W. D. Emanuel conveyed a lot of land in the 17th District of Talbot County, Georgia (1848). The deed was secured by a promissory note for $284.75. The deed was recorded on 13 Sep 1869. William D. Emanuel signed the indenture as a witness.

The 17 Jun 1870 federal census of the Wilkinson District of Talbot County, Georgia enumerates the household of Amazon (Johnson) Emanuel, 60 years old and born in Georgia (354). Amazon Emanuel held real estate valued at $7,000 and a personal estate of $600. Amazon’s son William Emanuel, 39 years old and born in Georgia was also living in the household and worked as a farmer. Also living in the household were: Georgia Emanuel, 22 years old; Moses Emanuel, 19 years old; Mary Emanuel, 16 years old; Benjamin Emanuel, 15 years old; William Emanuel, a: 10; Catharine Emanuel, eight years old; and Lilly Emanuel, four years old.

Before 4 Mar 1876, Amazon Jane (Johnson) Emanuel migrated with family to Rusk County in Northeast Texas.

On 10 Jan 1877, the heirs of the Estate of Benjamin Thomas Emanuel sold Talbot County, Georgia real estate to Henry W. Carly and W. J. Lign of Talbot County for $4,770 (313). The indenture describes the property as Lot 68 and 150 acres of Lot 92; all of Lot 93; all of Lot 67; and 11 acres of Lot 62 in District 17 of Talbot County, Georgia. Amazon Jane (Johnson) Emanuel conveyed the land as her Dower in the Estate of Benjamin Thomas Emanuel. William David Emanuel, Thomas Joel Emanuel, Moses Tucker Emanuel, and Georgia Ann E. (Emanuel) George surrendered their interests in the land as lawful heirs. When the indenture was made, Amazon Jane Emanuel and Thomas Joel Emanuel were living in Rusk County, Texas; William David Emanuel and Georgia Ann E. (Emanuel) George in Cherokee County; and Moses Tucker Emanuel in Angelina County, Texas.

Amazon Jane (Johnson) Emanuel died on 1 Aug 1877 in Cherokee County, Texas (90). Her remains are interred in the Parks Cemetery at Wells in Cherokee County, Texas.
