Born on 21 Dec 1838 in Seneca County New York, George Washington Countryman was a son of Isaac Countryman and Ellen (Voorhees) Countryman. Ellen (Voorhees) Countryman was a daughter of Henry Voorhees and Margaret (Nevius) Voorhees. Born on 27 Jun 1795 in the Hillsborough Township of Somerset County, New Jersey, Ellen Voorhees descended from a long line of Voorhees and Nevius ancestors. Steven Coerte Van Voorhees was the first to immigrate to America. Born in 1600 at Hees, Drenthe, Holland, Steven arrived at Amesfoort, New Netherland—now New York—on 15 Apr 1660.
