Biography notes for Dunkin Bohannon Jr.

Dunkin Bohannon, Jr. (ca 1675 – Feb 1754)

Duncan Bohannon, Jr. was born in Kingston Parish of Gloucester County, Virginia, in about 1675. He was a son of Duncan Bohannon and Cecily (Collmore) Bohannon. His mother, Cecily Bohannon, died at age 43 years, three years after Duncan’s birth.

Before Dec 1697, Duncan Bohannon, Jr. and Sarah Elliott married, presumably in Gloucester County, Virginia. A daughter Sarah Bohannon was born to Duncan and Sarah Bohannon on 7 Sep 1698, and a daughter Judith Bohannon was born on 6 May 1699 (190, 1192). A first son, William Bohannon, was born to Duncan and Sarah on 4 Apr 1701 (190, 1192). All three children were likely born in the Kingston Parish of Gloucester County, Virginia.

Duncan Bohannon appears on the 1704 quit rent roll for Kingston Parish of Gloucester County, Virginia as Dunkin Bohannah for 113 and 1/2 acres of land (55, Page 117; 140, Page 9). John Bohannah appears on the 1704 rent roll for 113 and 1/2 acres, and Joseph Bohannah appears for 148 acres. Presumably, Duncan Bohannon, Sr. died before 1704, and prior to his death divided his land holdings between his three sons.

On 17 Jan 1704, a son, Duncan Bohannon III, was born to Dunkin Bohannon Jr. and his wife Sarah (Elliott) Bohannon in the Kingston Parish of Gloucester County, Virginia.

On 26 Apr 1704, Duncan Bohannon was granted 145 acres of land in the Kingston Parish of Gloucester County, Virginia for transport to the Virginia Colony of three persons: William Cluny, Harris Temperance, and John Smithson (255). The tract adjoined lands of Richard Dudley, Captain Knowles, Captain William Armistead, and Aldridge. The 145 acres of land began at a red oak, Richard Dudleys corner and running along Captain Knowles line, etc.

A son Robert Bohannon was born to Dunkin and Sarah Bohannon on 30 Mar 1707 in the Kingston Parish of Gloucester County, Virginia. A daughter Margaret was born to Dunkin and Sarah before 1710, presumably in the Kingston Parish of Gloucester County. On 21 Dec 1711, a son Elliott Bohannon was born to Dunkin and Sarah in the Kingston Parish of Gloucester County, Virginia.

On 6 Jan 1730, Duncan Bohannon, Jr. purchased 611 acres of land in St. Georges Parish of King and Queen County, Virginia from William Eddings and his wife Rebeccah of Spotsylvania County (190, Page 6). Duncan Bohannon, Jr. paid ₤175 currency for the land. Theophilus Eddings, Thomas Burton, and Elliott Bohannon witnessed the deed. On 2 Nov 1731, Dunkin Bohannon of St. Stephens Parish of King and Queen County, sold the 611 acres of land to William Eddings of the St. Marks Parish of Spotsylvania County for ₤175 (190, Page 6). At the time of this deed, the land was in St. Marks Parish of Spotsylvania County, Virginia. On the same day, William Eddings conveyed 312 acres of land to Dunkin Bohannon for ₤47 pounds currency (190, Page 6). Robert Turner, Thomas Park, and Dunkin Bohannon, III witnessed both deeds.

On 5 Feb 1734, Dunkin Bohannon of King and Queen County sold the 312 acres to William Eddings of the St. Marks Parish of Spotsylvania County for ₤30 currency (190). G. Home and James King witnessed this deed.

Duncan Bohannon, Jr. made a will on 2 Mar 1753 in Orange County, Virginia.

Duncan Bohannon, Jr. died before 1 Mar 1754, presumably in King William County, Virginia.

On 1 Mar 1754, Duncan Bohannon, III presented the Will of Dunkin Bohanon to the court, and it was proved by witnesses.

At his death, Duncan Bahannon, Jr. owned land in King William County, Virginia (1192).

In his will, Duncan Bohannon, Jr. names sons William, Duncan, Robert, and Elliott; and daughters Sarah (Bohannon) Saymor, Judith (Bohannon) Askue, and Margaret (Bohannon) Gollorshun. In a codicile, Duncan Bohannon, Jr. names Franky Bohannon, daughter of his son Dunkin Bohannon, and Mary Bohannon, daughter of his son Elliott Bohannon. According to the will, Margaret (Bohannon) Gollorshun was married previously to Henry Rice.
