Jacobus Nevius ca (1732 – 1800)

Jacobus Nevius was born in about 1732 in Kings County, New York, a son of Cornelis Nevius and his wife Magdalene (163, Page 375). After May 1749, the Cornelis Nevius family migrated to the Montgomery Township of Somerset County, New Jersey, where Cornelis died in about 1760 (163, Page 254–255). Jacobus Nevius was about 17 years old, and presumably, he migrated to Somerset County with his family.

In about 1755, Jacobus Nevius and Pieternellite married in Somerset County, New Jersey (163, Page 375). In about 1756, a daughter Magdalena was born to Jacobus and Pieternellite; she was baptized on 18 Feb 1756 in Somerset County, New Jersey (163, Page 375). At his daughter’s birth, Jacobus was about 24 years old. A daughter Elizabeth Nevius was born to Jacobus and Pieternellite before 15 May 1758, when she was baptized at Six-Mile-Run in Somerset County, New Jersey (163, Page 299).

The father of Jacobus Nevius, Cornelis died in Somerset County, New Jersey in about 1760 (163, Page 254–255). At his father’s death, Jacobus was about 28 years old. Jacobus inherited farm land in Somerset County, New Jersey from his father’s estate (163, Page 375).

Before 10 Feb 1771, six more children were born to Jacobus and Pieternellite Nevius in the Hillsborough Township of Somerset County, New Jersey :

On 23 Jun 1795, Jacobus Nevius made a will in the Hillsborough Township of Somerset County, New Jersey (129). The will names his son Cornelius Nevius and daughters Lanah, Elizabeth, Peggy, and Jenny. The daughter Peggy was likely Margaret Nevius.

From Sep 1795 through Sep 1797, Jacobus Nevius continued to appear on tax lists for the Hillsborough Township in Somerset County, New Jersey (232).

Being of a good old age.

Son, Cornelius Nevius to receive home plantation. He is to pay each of his four sisters £60. Daughters: Lanah, Elizabeth, Peggy, and Jenny as well as son Cornelius each to receive one-fifth of the residue of the personal estate.

Executors: son, Cornelius Nevius, and son-in-law, Cornelius Wickoff.

Witnesses: Rynear Staats, Benjamin Spader, and Richard Hall
