Biography notes for James William Livingston
He entered into service February, 1862 as a Private in Company B of the 60th Ohio Volunteer Infantry for a period of one year. He was with the Regiment when it surrendered at Harper's Ferry on September 15, 1862. He mustered out with his company on November 10, 1862. James, again, entered into service February 15, 1864 and re-enlisted with the reorganized 60th Ohio Regiment. He was in the same Company and served as a cook at Nye River. James was later wounded in action near Petersburg, Virginia in August, 1864. He was wounded by a fragment of a shell which fractured his leg requiring an amputation at the hip. The operation was performed in the field hospital and he died later that month on the Potomac on board the hospital boat, "The Connecticut."
